Biography

Born in Montréal, Canada, Ferguson moved around a lot as a child and eventually, as a result, gained an American/Canadian dual citizenship. A graduate of Appleby College in Oakville, Ontario and McGill University in Montréal, he used to be a member of the Montréal improv group On The Spot, as well as a founding member of Second City, Detroit. He starred in the lead role of Sci Fi Channel's hit series Eureka as witty Marshal-turned-Sheriff Jack Carter.

Starting out as a stand-up comic while still in college, he won a public speaking contest at the age of 17 and refined his skills as a comedian and improv performer. Ferguson beat out 2,000 hopefuls to initiate the Detroit satellite of the famed Second City, but had to withdraw to complete his college education. He moved to Los Angeles after he landed the lead in Rowing Through shortly after graduating.

Despite appearances in a handful of unsold pilots, Ferguson found some success when he played the role of Burke Andrew in the Showtime miniseries More Tales of the City in 1998. He made his US network television debut as a series regular in 2000 in Then Came You as uptight lawyer, Lewis.

Ferguson finally had an opportunity to become a household name when he was cast as Patrick Bateman in the US version of the hit BBC comedy Coupling. The British version had been labeled the must-see TV successor to the departing Friends, but the United States import was universally panned and cancelled shortly after it began.
