Notes

Trivia

The Show

  • One of Joe's models is of an exterminator battling a giant spider, referring to Pesticide.
  • A model of the scarecrow from The Companion can also be seen in Joe's room.
  • In Joe's dream, June hands him an issue of Creepshow that bears the same cover as Gray Matter.
  • Kevin is also seen drinking a bottle of the episode's beer, Harrows Supreme, at one point.
  • Joe is likely named after Joe Hill, who played the abused child in the original Creepshow film's framing narrative.
  • The ashtray from "Father's Day" is seen on Joe's dresser as he uses the Victim to torment Kevin.

Behind the Scenes

Allusions and References

  • Joe and his mother spend their last moments together watching the 1948 film Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.
  • A milk carton in the Aurora's refrigerator has a picture of Laddie from The Lost Boys on it.
  • Joe's Aunt Barb works as a waitress at Beekman's Diner, the same restaurant mentioned in the 1968 film Night of the Living Dead.
  • The Aurora family is named after Aurora Plastics, which was known for manufacturing model kits advertised in comic books at the time.
  • A poster in Joe's room advertises a showing of three movies titled IT Came Back, IT Came Back Again, and IT Won't Stop Coming Back. This is actually a reference to IT, as Pennywise transforms into the monsters featured in the segment.
  • When June lists off movie monsters, Dracula, the Mummy, Frankenstein, Kevin butts in with O.J. Simpson. This is an obvious joke alluding to the fact that at the time of the story's setting, 1972, Simpson was known for being a football player, but has since been associated with being on trial for double murder.
