Plot Overview
Lyle VelJohnson is sick and tired of his evil and wealthy parents controlling his entire life, but the final straw is when they cost him the chance to go to prom with the most popular girl in school, driving him to kill them. Unfortunately, they quickly become ghosts who haunt Lyle nonstop for years on end, which becomes problematic when Violet Meyers, the girl who stood him up, wants to give Lyle another chance while his ghoulish parents threaten to ruin the moment.
Notes
Trivia
The Show
- As Lyle peruses the grocery store with his ghostly parents, he happens upon the ashtray from "Father's Day" from the first Creepshow film, sitting completely out-of-place on one of the shelves as a nod to the episode's comedic tone.
- Lyle intends to wear the black trenchcoat and fedora that Angela wore in Night of the Paw as his outfit for prom. Similar to that episode, his parents say the outfit makes him look like a serial killer and toss the hat into the fireplace.
- Gloria's abusive black cat is named "Churchill", similar to the evil cat Church from Pet Sematary.
- Lyle and Violet's marriage license briefly shows that they were wed in judge's chambers at the Savini Court House, named after the special effects artist from the original film.
Behind the Scenes
Allusions and References
- Lyle is named after Lyle Mendez, a real-life serial killer who was convicted for similarly murdering his parents.
- Lyle's family name of VelJohnson is a reference to Reginald VelJohnson, who played Carl Winslow on Family Matters.
- Violet's family name of Meyers is taken from Michael Meyers of the Halloween franchise, suiting her murderous nature.
- The episode's title is a reference to the 1961 film The Parent Trap.
