Plot Overview
Upon arriving at the airport from Las Vegas, Torello is angered when a subpoena server hits him with a notice...to serve as a DEFENSE witness for Luca! Angry that he was used by Luca, Abrams confronts him violently, then quits the Public Defender's office and agrees to become Torello's lawyer in his trial. Abrams is pleased to see his own father in the courtroom as a spectator, and Bartoli recognizes the old man as 'Izzy the Dancer', who practically invented the book on gambling. Luca and Abrams get into it again outside the Courthouse, and Torello breaks it up, telling Luca if he has to take it out on someone else, to take it out on him and not the lawyer. Inger calls Torello to offer her support to him after reading the 'garbage' posted in the paper. She agrees to meet Mike late at night over her fiancé's objections, and Mike tells her that everyone he loves could suffer because of his troubles, and he doesn't want that to happen to her. They break up, but not after making love one last time. Weisbord angrily defends the new head of the Pension Fund, Steven Kordo, against the objections of the other top mobsters. Luca decides that he has to take out both Abrams and Torello. Torello's men thwart a hit man who attempts to assassinate him, but tragedy strikes Abrams when his dad is killed by a car bomb meant for him.
