Plot Overview

Marc Cory, a member of the Space Security Service, leads a mission to the inhospitable planet Kembel to follow up on a recent sighting of a Dalek ship.

His shipmates, Jeff and Gordon are infected by the poisonous, insanity-inducing thorns of the Varga plant -- a plant native only to the Dalek's homeworld, Skaro.

Cory overhears a conference of Daleks and their allies -- they plan to attack Earth and take over the Galaxy. He makes makes a tape and plans to put it into a small rocket, which will go into orbit and broadcast his warning throughout the galaxy. Unfortunately he is killed by the Daleks before he can launch the rocket. The tape recording is left lying unnoticed on the jungle floor.

Notes

This episode is notable in that neither the Doctor nor his companions makes any appearance at all. It is a prelude to The Daleks' Master Plan.
