Plot Overview

The Griffins audition for and are invited to compete on the television game show Family Feud. The family does well and advances to the Fast Money bonus round; Lois puts her family in a prime position to win the grand prize, but Peter bungles the attempt to win the jackpot after he stubbornly refuses to change his answer on a question. Host Richard Dawson tries to counsel Peter on the rules, but it only leads to an argument and fistfight that causes the two to crash into the family podium on the set. In the aftermath, Peter suffers a head injury, resulting in amnesia.

Lois has to reteach Peter everything about his life, including re-introducing him to his family and his friends, and how to do simple everyday tasks. The effort is unsuccessful, but Lois keeps up her efforts. One night, Peter peeks in on Lois changing for bed, but Lois assures him that it is OK and that it often leads to sex. Peter enjoys the experience and then naively believes that it is OK to have sex with other women. Lois is upset when Peter brings home Tiffani-Amber Thiessen to have sex, and announces she and the children are moving out.

Lois moves the family into a low-rent apartment, and everyone is miserable... except for Quagmire, who learns about Lois' situation when he runs into her at the supermarket. Quagmire invites her over for dinner, with the (unstated) intent of having sex later.

Brian learns about Quagmire's intentions and tries to warn Peter. Peter reveals that, in the meantime, he had regained his memory (after suffering a series of concussions when Ernie the Giant Chicken repeatedly struck him on top of the head). Peter eventually walks in on Quagmire and Lois in bed, apologizes for his actions and declares his love for Lois. While Peter and Lois are making up, Quagmire loses his erection and scrambles around the house in the nude, allowing the Griffins to make their getaway.

Allusions and References

  • Family Feud - The episode's opening act features the family on the long-running game show. Richard Dawson (whose voice is provided by a voiceover artist) is the host, and the original 1976 set, music and rules are featured.
  • Hogan's Heroes - The Family Feud segment features two allusions to the 1965 military situation comedy (in which Dawson was a co-star). Dawson refers to the alleged existence of videotaped sexual exploits of co-star Bob Crane in the opening monologue. At the end of the segment, Dawson's parting words to Peter - after the two get into a fight on the set and Peter is knocked unconscious after falling through a podium on the set - are "I served in a fictitious military," referring to his role as Cpl. Peter Newkirk on the show.
