Basic Information

As is the case with Jesus, the Family Guy depiction of God is primarily featured in episodes and/or gags satrical to religion, primarily Christianity. Perhaps intended to be sacrilegious, he is depicted as a human being, interacting with people in Heaven, in flashback and in modern-day Quahog. Just like Jesus, God is often shown performing miracles or demonstrating abilities in an exaggerated manner from how the Bible presents him. Several times, God and Jesus have have been paired together in gags.

The often unflattering and/or negative portrayal of God has made Family Guy the target of frequent criticism, particularly by the Parents Television Council, a conservative watchdog organization that reviews programs and makes recommendations based on its core beliefs.

In addition, the Parents Television Council has criticized Family Guy over its run, perceiving negative treatment of religion on the program, concluding in its 2006 report Faith in a Box: Entertainment Television and Religion 2005-2006 that "mockery of God is a constant" on the show. Episodes targed by the PTC included "The Courtship of Stewie's Father", "Untitled Griffin Family History", "You May Now Kiss the...Uh...Guy Who Receives", and "I Take Thee Quagmire"
