Plot Overview

The Griffins celebrate Lois' birthday, but Peter, Chris and Meg give her gifts that are either mediocre or insulting. Brian's gift is far more thoughtful: a pair of cruise tickets, which Lois assumes are for her and Peter (much to Brian's disappointment). When Peter and Lois leave for their trip, Stewie is furious that he wasn't invited along and vows to kill Lois. Brian laughs off Stewie's latest comment, noting that he never followed through before. Unknowingly, this gives Stewie all the resolve he needs to follow through with murdering Lois.

On the cruise ship, Peter embarrasses Lois several times, the limit coming when he tells an inappropriate story about how Lois was considering an abortion when she was pregnant with Meg. The two get into a big argument, and Lois decides to go to the deck to calm down and sort out her feelings. Just then, Stewie arrives in a speedboat and sneaks up behind Lois. Lois is astonished to see Stewie, who uses a machine gun to shoot his mother several times. Lois is killed after she falls over the side of the ship and plunges into the deep ocean. Stewie's celebration of finally killing his mother is short-lived; he trips and bruises his arm.

Stewie behaves nonchalantly as the others worry about Lois' well-being. A massive search for Lois is unsuccessful, and Joe eventually informs Peter that Lois is being declared dead.

Flash forward one year, where everyone has managed to move on with their lives. Peter has started to date other people; Chris has been led to believe that Lois is merely away at a health spa (apparently because of concerns of how he would handle the truth); and Meg "has really begun to flourish," according to Stewie. Later, Brian tells Stewie that he found a receipt of a speedboat rental - dated the same day Lois was last known alive - in his room and asks tough questions. Stewie lets slip that the fact that Lois' death was an accident "was what everyone was led to believe." Brian realizes that Stewie carried out his plan and killed Lois, and warns him that he will be brought to justice. That night, Stewie realizes he must discard the evidence - the gun and graphic drawings of Lois' murder - immediately.

Joe, Cleveland and Quagmire search the Griffins' trash cans, discover the evidence and mistakenly conclude that Peter committed the murder. They had arrived at their conclusion based on a conversation they had with Peter earlier in the evening at the Drunken Clam, where Peter stupidly admits he took out a life insurance policy on Lois after their fight, and momentarily wished that she (Lois) were dead; he was now cashing in on the policy. Stewie gleefully celebrates Peter's arrest, meaning he's off scott-free. Brian, however, knows the truth and vows to expose Stewie as the real murderer.

Peter is arrested, faces trial and is convicted of murder. Just before Peter is sentenced to life imprisonment, a mysterious figure - who reveals herself to be Lois - enters the courtroom. After the joyous reunion, Lois fingers Stewie as her would-be killer.
