The Hand That Rocks the Wheelchair is the fourteenth episode of the ninth season of Family Guy, and the one hundred sixty-fourth episode overall.

The main plot centers on Meg looking after her wheelchair-bound neighbor, Joe, and his daughter, Susie, after Bonnie is called out of town to tend to a family emergency; Meg begins taking her duties too seriously and soon acts as though she is married to Joe. Meanwhile, Stewie -- upon Brian telling him that he has become "soft" -- inadvertently creates a clone of himself, that of Stewie's evil self.

Plot Overview

Meg is asked by Lois to watch over Joe and babysit Susie while Bonnie goes to Paris. Meg says yes after being flattered. While spending time with both, Meg develops a crush on Joe. Joe becomes aware of this and informs Lois and Peter about it. After talking to Meg about her obsession, Meg makes a decision that may cost her her life in an effort to be with Joe.

Notes

This is the second time that Meg has developed a crush on a regular character on Family Guy. The first was Brian years before.

Allusions and References

• The Hand That Rocks the Cradle -- The episode title is a play on the 1992 suspense thriller. The movie's plot also borrows several scenes and plot elements from the movie.

• Star Trek -- Plot elements of the episode "The Enemy Within" -- an inadvertently created evil clone of one of the show's central characters -- is the basis for the subplot (where Stewie creates an evil clone of himself).

• "Thriller" -- The concluding moment of the episode -- Stewie, with bright yellow eyes, giving a terrifying grimace into the camera and laughing evilly before the fade-to-black -- is an homage to the 1984 music video by Michael Jackson.
