Smile, You're on Mars Camera is the fourth episode of the second season of Gilligan's Island, and the fortieth episode overall.

Plot Overview

Gilligan is looking for some Feathers for Mr. Howell.The purpose is to knit a Pillow for his wife.So far Gilligan has been collecting the wrong kind of feathers,for which Howell has been putting in the reject pile(there are various colors in the pile).During this searching for the right types,a Camera has landed on the Island.This is no ordinary Camera,but a Space Camera that NASA had sent into Outer Space.The Officials at NASA has no idea where the Camera has landed.The Castaways discovered the Space Camera.Having examined the Camera it is still in working order,with one exception.The Lens to the Space is missing(it had fallen off when it impacted).The Professor feels that they must find the Lens before NASA who can still Activate the Camera even from thousands of miles away,activates the Camera.This is another chance for the Castaways to be rescued.The Castaways form a search for the missing Lens.It is found by Gilligan,who thought it was a Magnifying Glass.When he learns that it is the Space Camera Lens that they were all searching for,he gets so excited that he throws the Lens into the air,and it smashes.Fortunately,it smashes into only two pieces.The Castaways can still repair the Lens,all they need is glue from a Tree.They will boil the substance until it is ready for use.The glue is ready.The Professor was able to attach the glue to the Lens,which holds.Now all the Castaways have to do is wait for NASA to activate the Camera.The Castaways prepare themselves for the wait.They each get dressed,and holdup signs with words like Help,and Rescue.The only snag in this attempt at rescue comes when Gilligan puts a lid on the boiling Pot of Glue.This causes the Pot to explode,which also covers the Castaways with the substance from head to toe.They are so angry because of Gilligan's carelessness that they chase after him when he runs into the Hut where Howells discorded feathers are.Not thinking about their situation,and still angry at Gilligan they continue pursuing him.During this pursuit,the Camera is activated.NASA angles the Camera to try to find out where the Space Camera had landed.At this time,the Castaways come running out of the Hut,covered with the feathers.They attempt to pull off the feathers,but they cannot.They notice that the Camera has been activated.NASA believing that the Camera has landed on a Planet where the occupants are Chicken People.The Castaways attempt to get the signs that they were holding in front of the Camera.Gilligan goes to get the Signs,but he trips the stilt of the Camera,it falls causing a static screen,losing contact with NASA.Thus another foiled Rescue.

Notes

This episode was another close call to the Castaways being Rescued.
