Plot Overview
Duke tricks Audrey into a Saturday morning, 8am boat ride, to an unspecified destination. He tells her he has seen something she needs to see. While they are still en route, Audrey is restless and pesters Duke to tell her the destination. They are close enough that he points to an island ahead and tells her it's called Carpenter's Knot. The last of the Carpenters use to run a lovely hotel there, but he closed down the hotel when Duke was a kid, but Duke says he has heard the grounds and resort were very special.
They arrive in the evening. Duke takes Audrey into the main building that is lit, but empty. As she looks around the entry way, a hand appears behind her and taps her shoulder. When she whirls around the group that was hidden shouts surprise and a camera flash goes off. Vince and Dave Teagues, Eleanor, Julia and Chief Wuornos were all hiding in a room off the entry way.
Audrey admits she has never had a birthday party before. She meets Julia Carr, Eleanor's daughter, for the first time. Julia is just back from Darfour where she was working for Doctors without Borders.
Nathan brings in the bags and a pile of presents.
Vaughn Carpenter arrives and welcomes them to the Knot. Eleanor greets him like an old friend and asks him about his wife. He tells Eleanor his wife has passed away.
When Eleanor introduces Audrey to Vaughn, Vaughn comments that she is the spitting image of Lucy Ripley, who was an old friend. At that moment the power goes out and Vaughn goes off to check on the generator.
