Plot Overview

Duke and Audrey go to Duke's old high school to meet with the guidance councilor. The guidance councilor, Vanessa Stanley, was also in the Colorado Kid photo. Duke can't remember anything about the day of the photo, and Audrey is hoping Vanessa will remember something. However, Vanessa, like Duke, can't remember anything from the day of the photo.

After Audrey and Duke leave, Vanessa is witness to a car explosion that kills the principle of the school.

Nathan feels there is something off about the explosion, but Audrey tells him there is no reason to believe that and she goes with Duke to talk to the photographer who took the Colorado Kid photo. However, the photographer turns out to have an alternate view of reality and isn't much help.

At the local swimming pool, Vanessa appears at the front door, trying to get in but the life guard tells her it is closed and he won't let her in. Then he goes inside and tells the people in the pool there is ten minutes left. Everyone clears the pool except one boy, Xander. The water in the pool starts to boil and kills Xander.

Audrey and Nathan come to investigate the killing at the pool with Julia who reports to them that the boy Xander boiled to death. Audrey admits to Nathan that he was right about the car explosion, that there was more to it than meets the eye.

At the police station, a sketch artist works with the witnesses from the pool to get a sketch of Vanessa. Duke comes to the station looking for Audrey. She isn't there, but Duke sees the likeness of Vanessa. He says nothing.

Later he meets her at The Grey Gull. He tells her about the sketch the police have and says he can help her. She flees the bar.

At the police station, Audrey sees the sketch and recognizes it as Vanessa. She goes with Nathan to Vanessa's house. They knock on the door and Duke answers. Inside they find scraps of paper with random drawings and scribbled writings.

A clue leads them to a house in the suburbs where there is a backyard barberque. When Vanessa arrives, they detain her but she convinces them that she can see limited bits of the future, and she is only there to prevent an explosion from happening.

Nathan and Duke are able to prevent the any injuries by throwing the barberque in the pool.

Back at Vanessa's house, they continue analyzing the clues. Nathan realizes that the various components are part of a movie. Vanessa says she sees an outdoor scene. Nathan and Duke realize at once where the event she foresees will occur, and outdoor screening area where many of the kids from the pool will be.

The four of them arrive and begin clearing people away from the area, trying to find Matt West, who they believe to be the perpetrator. When they do find him and tell him he is causing all the explosions, he is thrilled, believing that he now has a fool proof way of getting what he wants.

Vanessa tries to stop him as he flees but he causes an explosion that injures her severely. Matt disarms Audrey and Nathan by heating up their guns. Audrey taunts him and provokes him until he causes himself to explode.

As Vanessa is dying, she tells Duke how she sees him dying, to prove to him that there is fate after all.
