Hercules
From The TV IV
Hercules (Latin name, in the original Greek he is known as Heracles) is the name of a hero in Greek and Roman mythology. By most accounts, he was said to be the son of Zeus (king of the gods) by a human woman. Regardless of his origins, he features in a number of famous stories, most notably the Twelve Labors of Hercules. Because of his prominent role in mythology, a number of programs have been produced starring the hero:
- The Mighty Hercules: an animated program that ran from 1963–1966
- The Sons of Hercules: a syndicated program that repackaged old Italian "swords-and-sandals" films
- Hercules: The Legendary Journeys: the famous live-action series starring Kevin Sorbo that ran from 1995–1999
- Young Hercules: a spinoff of the above spotlighting the hero's teenage years
- Disney's Hercules: a spinoff of the animated Disney film, also spotlighting the hero's teenage years
- Hercules (2005): a made-for-TV movie airing on the Hallmark Channel in 2005
