Hercules: The Legendary Journeys is a fantasy action-adventure program based loosely on the tales from Greek mythology, following the half-man-half-god hero, Hercules.
After his stepmother Hera, the all-powerful Queen of the Gods, kills his wife and children, Hercules swears to live his life to help better the rest of humanity. With him, on many of his journeys is his trusted friend, Iolaus.
The show produced an even more successful spinoff, Xena: Warrior Princess, as well as a program for younger audiences, Young Hercules.
The series was produced for first-run syndication by Renaissance Pictures, with distribution originally handled by MCA Television until 1996, by Universal Television Enterprises from 1996 until 1998 and then by Studios USA until the show ended production. NBCUniversal Television Distribution now syndicates the show.
