Hieroglyph is a period drama that was set to premiere on FOX during the the 2014-2015 season. It went through a very unusual development process. In the 2012-13 pilot season, it was one of 4 scripts at FOX in contention for the final drama pilot slot. While it was considered the favorite, they ended up choosing two (The Following and The Mob Doctor), while passing on Hieroglyph. In 2013, FOX gave it a straight to series, 13 episode order. After the pilot was finished, FOX's head of programming, Kevin Reilly, was fired. FOX ended up deciding not to move forward with it.
