Biography
Jared Hedges is a writer and producer for television and video games. He began working with the anime dubbing company FUNimation in 1999, working on English adaptation scripts, beginning with the popular Dragon Ball Z. He became a Head Writer for FUNimation in 2000, and has written dub scripts for aproximately 350 anime episodes and two feature length anime films, including Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa, which had a U.S. theatrical release. Other writers on Jared's staff have included Joel Bergen, Kelli Howard, Alex Muniz, Colleen Clinkenbeard, Bonny Clinkenbeard, Ben Arntz, and Michael Ampikapon.
Currently Jared Hedges, Alex Muniz and Joel Bergen are writing the English version of the anime comedy series Shin Chan, with additional contributions from Colleen Clinkenbeard and John Burgmeier in the early episodes. Comic book and television writers Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer worked on first run of Shin Chan scripts as well, credited as "Punch Up Writers." Ben Arntz, Michael B. Steinberg, and Laura Moran were added to the writing staff beginning with episode 19.
Shin Chan ran a six episode test run on Adult Swim in August and September 2006. Its first, 20 episode season began airing on Adult Swim on April 9th, 2007.
Unlike typical anime adaptations, Shin Chan was substantially changed to cater to a wider, adult audience. Many of the original jokes in Shin Chan are based on Japanese pop culture, customs, and Japanese wordplay, meaning the jokes often do not translate. The writing team sought to keep the spirit of Shin Chan intact with American pop culture references and English puns, while also making the show "edgier" to appeal to Adult Swim fans.
Jared has also worked as a producer for DVD special features and the FUNimation Channel. He recently worked as a writer with Paradigm Entertainment on their latest Xbox 360 game, Stuntman: Ignition, which releases in summer 2007.
