Plot Overview

Magician Chris Angel

Mary has hired a new magician for the weekend, Chris Angel. Chris is known for his baffling tricks which seemingly are impossible to fake. He turns one woman's champagne into a beer and walks around the casino and slot machines all hit the jackpot. Mike is especially interested in the magician and spends much of his time in the security booth trying to figure out how Chris does his tricks. Delinda is also interesting, as she says that she was once in the magic game, and tries to get Chris to tell her his secrets but he's not saying anything. Mike is baffled by Chris Angel's ability to do levitation where no wires seem to be present, and so brings in another magician to tell Angel's secrets, but this other magician seems to think Chris is the real deal.

Chris Angel becomes a suspect in the robbery of the Star of Kashmir, and Danny approaches Chris about why he was in the casino at 3AM on the night of the robbery, but the guy appears to be clean. Chris helps Danny in his investigation when he explains how he does his tricks: he diverts your attention one way while he's stealing your watch. Mike and Delinda seem to have gived up trying to figure out how Chris Angel has done it, and the deal is sealed when they watch him walk on water.

The Star of Kashmir

Monica and Danny admire a sapphire necklace that is on display at the Montecito, the Star of Kashmir, a priceless jewel from India. Danny wants tight security with bulletproof glass surrounding the necklace, but Monica seems determined to minimize security to what is normal for the casino, because she thinks it will make the event more special.

Danny sets up tighter security anyways, though short of the bulletproof glass he was hoping for. He has 2 people watching the monitors of the necklace at all times. One night Danny gets a call.... the monitors have gone black and when Danny arrives... the necklace is gone.

Danny's first step is to question the person in charge of shutting down the security system, Derrick, whom he thinks may be involved. When pressed Derrick seems to know something, but says that he has been sworn to secrecy. When he finds out that the necklace is missing, which he had not known, he finally reveals that it was Monica who had asked him to shut the security down. Danny now confronts Monica, seeing her as the primary suspect, but she says that she had only shut down the security for a second so that she could try on the necklace. She says that she locked the door on her way out and told the security team to turn the alarms back on. It must have been in those two minutes when the necklace was stolen.

Danny goes to Ed, who is now semiretired, for advice. Ed tells him to check out 3 well known jewel thiefs who are in town, and tells him that one, Bobby Hartman, works at a strip club. Danny goes there and finds that she is not a waitress, but actually a stripper. She steals Danny's wallet, but not before he catches up to and questions her about the necklace, but finds out that she is going to school. She says that the deal sounds like an inside job.

Next Danny checks up on another jewel thief, Ellis Brookes, who was staying at the Montecito. With the help of Sam he finds out that Ellis had a suitcase with a special place to put the necklace, but no necklace in it. Ellis says that he had planned to steal the necklace that night, but it appears that someone beat him to it.

After questioning Chris Angel, the magician, coupled with the advice of Bobby Hartman, Danny figures it out. It was in fact the man overseeing the presentation of the necklace who had stolen the necklace. After tricking him by having a fake necklace, which the crook must pretend is real, Danny knows that he has found the guy, who bolts onto the streets of Vegas not before being caught by Danny. The presentation goes off smoothly and everyone can rest easier.

Happenings

Ed, Still Retired

Monica attempts to mend her relationship with Ed, but winds up only doing more damage. Ed is sitting around his home with his wife, which he never had the chance to do in the past, but is also talking to the Maloof brothers about running one of their new casinos. Monica sends over a present, a 450 thousand dollar sports car with a red bow on top. His wife seems to think it's a fence building gesture, but it doesn't convince Ed. So he sends her back a chocolate car with a card that says "eat me."

Monica tries again, this time sending a vegas singer to Ed's home to send for him a song that she had written. Ed sends word back that if she has something to say to him, to come see him herself, which she does. Monica comes to visit Ed, apologizes, and Ed says that he accepts.... until Monica asks for an apology back which sends Ed into outrage. He tells her to get off his property; this relationship is definitely not going to be fixed.

Danny's Promotion

Due to his experience as well as his efforts to retrieve the stolen necklace, the Star of Kashmir, Danny McCoy is promoted to the president of operations, Ed's former job. Danny is shocked, as he did not see this coming... and doesn't appear to be thrilled.
