Plot Overview

Nat and Travis

Mike notices that a guy at a poker table has a strange habit when playing, and that he continually wins. He believes that the guy is cheating and talks to Danny about it. Every 17 minutes the guy walks up and goes behind the slot machines.

Danny goes to observe what it is the guy is doing, and he appears to be lost in his own thoughts while playing. Danny follows the guy, named Nat, and sees that he goes behind the slot machines and over to a monitor where a Montecito jingle is played every 17 minutes. He sings along and then returns to the poker table.

Danny thinks that the guy, Nat, is autistic. Mike says how autistic people can get caught into repetitive behavior. Danny thinks that someone is using the jingle to get Nat caught into repetitive behavior so that he can make money off of him. Nat has a photographic memory and so can count cards. Danny finds out that Nat, when going behind the slot machines, drops the earnings into a guy's cup at the slot machines; the guy's name is Travis. Travis works at the facility where Nat lives and brought him here.

The Blackbook

One of the biggest hosts in Vegas dies, and so Sam is off to the funeral to try and get his blackbook which has many good contacts in it. She brings along Delinda because she knows that other hosts will be there too and she could use the help.

At the funeral she notices someone who she used to know; someone who used to be Sam's best friends but they had a falling out when Sam stole one of her whales. She offers a date with Delinda in exchange for the blackbook to one of the deceased's relatives. Sam and her ex-bestfriend fight over the blackbook which they think is with the deceased in the casket.

Mike sees Sam with the blackbook at the casino and asks her how she managed to get it, but she doesn't say... she walks away with a mud trail following behind... implying that she dug up the body.

Monica's Power Trip

Danny is feeling the stress of his promotion at the Montecito. Mike is asking about getting Danny's old job, and Sam and Delinda are asking for favors. Monica buys an Austin Martin for Danny and comes on to him at the car dealership.

Monica tells Danny to let a player keep playing who is in over 4 million; she thinks he will eventually lose (he is going all-in after each win). Danny wants to shut down the roulette table and institute a $1,000 limit, but Monica orders him not to. When Danny learns about the autistic man at the poker table, Monica seems rather unconcerned and tells Danny to have him arrested for card counting and escorted out. Danny defies this order and catches the man who was exploiting him.

Monica gives Danny a list of employees to fire, including several people who are close to retirement, and tells him to cut off overtime. She is trying to tighten the spending. Danny doesn't like the idea and puts off doing the firings. Later when Monica reaffirms her wish that the people be fired, she adds Delinda (because she wants to cut ties with all Delines) and Mary (because she just doesn't like her) to the list.

Monica seems to be out of control, so Danny calls up a man named KC Manning about a takeover of the casino, but Monica is overhearing the conversation. She orders Danny to the rooftop where they get into an argument. Monica thinks Danny is too much like Ed and explains how she wants to build an empire. Strangely, a wind sends her flying off the building and we see a "to be continued" as the episode closes.

Happenings

  • Mary checks into the Montecito because she has left Jake. Jake comes to see her and asks her to marry him, but gets a call about a case and has to leave. Mary is reminded of why she left Jake; he never spends time with her.
  • Jake comes back later but Mary had been talking to Danny and decides not to marry Jake. Danny comes to see her and expresses his concern, but she tells him that she doesn't need him to come to her rescue. She talks with Delinda and decides that she wants to be a new Mary.
  • When KC Manning answers the phone call from Danny, Ed is there with him, apparently behind the takeover. They leave to grab a plane to Vegas.
