  • Had been blacklisted from Hollywood for several years during the 1950s when her name appeared in the publication Red Channels, which named entertainment personalities suspected (or in some cases, confirmed) of having ties to Communism, as well as for her association with actor/singer and Communist sympathizer Paul Robeson and for associating in the 1940s with Communist-backed groups, though she would later disavow Communism at the suggestion of Ed Sullivan.
