LostLost: Missing Pieces

Jack, Meet Ethan. Ethan? Jack. is the tenth mobisode of Lost: Missing Pieces, and the tenth mobisode overall.

Guest Stars: Matthew Fox (Jack Shephard), William Mapother (Ethan Rom)

Synopsis

After the crash of Oceanic Flight 815, Jack Shephard looks through the scattered luggage for medicine. Ethan Rom approaches him and, hearing he was a doctor and rounding up the medicine, hands over a suitcase full of prescription medicine bottles that he discovered in the jungle. The two introduce themselves, and Ethan thanks Jack for having some perspective about events after the crash; rescue may not come anytime soon and they'll need to be prepared for that possibility. Ethan knows Jack is smart and mulling over the added possibility he might have to deliver Claire Littleton's baby on the island. Jack is happy to have an assistant in Ethan should that time come, but notices that Ethan is troubled. He reveals to Jack that his wife and baby died during childbirth, and he hopes they're both wrong and rescue is on its way.

Trivia

  • Time Frame: This mobisode takes place shortly after the crash.
  • Claire: The shot of Claire is taken from "Pilot, Part 1", but mirrored so she's facing left inside of right.

Transcript

Ethan: You're the doctor, right?
Jack: Yeah, that's me.
Ethan: Well, I heard you were rounding up the medicine, so I figured... you might want this.
[Ethan opens a suitcase full of prescription medicine bottles]
Jack: Whew.
Ethan: Haha. Jackpot, right?
Jack: Guy must've been a hypochondriac or something. Where'd you find this?
Ethan: In the jungle. I'm Ethan, by the way.
Jack: I'm Jack.
Ethan: Thank you, Jack.
Jack: For what?
Ethan: Getting all this together, having a little perspective, you know? Thinking long term. Most of them still think we're going to get rescued any time now.
Jack: And you think I don't?
Ethan: No, I think you're smart. And I think you're looking at that girl [Claire], knowing you might actually have to deliver that baby here. I know that's what I'm thinking.
Jack: Well, it's nice to know I'm not alone.
Ethan: You're definitely not alone.
Jack: If she does go into labor, at least I know I've got an assistant. [Ethan looks at him and looks away] I'm sorry, I didn’t mean to...
Ethan: It's all right, don't worry about it. Anyway, you've got the meds.
Jack: Yeah, thank you.
Ethan: You're welcome. [pause] Jack, um... My wife died in childbirth. And our, uh, our baby didn't make it either. [pause] Well, let's hope we're both wrong and the rescue boats are on their way right now.
Jack: Let's hope.
