Biography
Michael John Nelson was born on October 11, 1964 in St. Charles, Illinois. He attended the University of Wisconsin River Falls and worked in comedy clubs in addition to a dairy cheese factory. Nelson was hired at Best Brains, Inc. to be a typist, but quickly became a member of the writing team. Nelson was named head writer on the show at the beginning of Season Two.
Nelson guest starred numerous times on the show, most notably as the bow legged Torgo from Episode 4x24 - Manos, the Hands of Fate. When Joel Hodgson left the show midway through Season Five, Nelson took over as the host of the program. He portrayed the character of Mike Nelson. He would remain the host throughout the rest of the show's lifespan.
After the cancellation of the show, Nelson turned his attentions towards writing. He has released three books so far, Mike Nelson's Movie Megacheese, Mike Nelson's Mind Over Matters and Death Rat: A Novel. He has also done commentary tracks for many DVDs, some with his fellow Mystery Science Theater 3000 castmates Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett.
