Plot Overview
The victim is the overbearing owner of a popular diner. The killer is one of her former employees. The dead woman's body is found inside the charred ruins of her restaurant, burned to death, though she was knocked unconscious prior to the starting of the fire. Angie and Oscar first suspect her troubled son, a ne'er-do-well who just got out of prison after assaulting another of her ex-employees, who had placed his food truck in front of her restaurant and stole business, and the lighter that started the fire belonged to him, but he maintains that everyone knew where the lighter was kept, and furthermore, he has an alibi for the time of his mother's death. Eventually, the case comes down to the mysterious reasons why she left her diner on Wednesdays and Fridays during peak hours, and why she and the girl who killed her both showed up at the same park during those times. Angie also asks Boyd for advice on how to handle the issue of her testifying on Cross's behalf, all the while avoiding Samantha, and she admits to Oscar that she lied to a judicial committee about a controversial shooting incident involving her and Cross.
