Plot Overview
The Movie
A team of astronauts are sent into space to destroy a giant asteroid before it can collide into Earth. Their mission is a success, but unbeknownst to them, they bring back a green slime. The slime transforms into tentacled monsters that are powered by electricity. The monsters proceed to take control of the space station and it's up to the crew to take them out.
The Host Segments
- Opening Segment - Joel explains the premise behind Mystery Science Theater 3000. In this version of the story, Joel built the Satellite of Love himself. He introduces his robot companions, Crow T. Robot and Beeper. He presents an invention that allows people to turn their heads in a complete circle.
- Segment One - Joel introduces Gypsy (who is known as Gypsum in this pilot). She faints after learning that she is on television.
- Segment Two - Joel finds the secret of life on an 8-track.
Notes
- This pilot is only 22 minutes long and was used to get a 13 episode order from KTMA.
- Beeper was a robot that communicated only in beeps. The beeps were translated for the audience by Joel or Crow. This robot was wisely replaced with Tom Servo in the actual show.
- This episode was never broadcast on television and no fan copies of it exist. The only footage seen from it are from compilation tapes produced by Best Brains, Inc. Show producer Jim Mallon is the only one known to have a copy of this show.
