As before, two teams, each of a celebrity and a civilian player, communicate words and phrases for points. Each team has thirty seconds to do so for each category presented (which on the show had names that owed more to Win Ben Stein's Money than to Pyramid).
The top scorer after six categories are played goes to the Winner's Circle, where payoffs per subject during regular play were $200 for each of the bottom squares, $300 for the middle two and $500 for the top. There were no returning champions. The four players who win $25,000 during a week of gameplay returns for semi-final games where the payouts were $500 (bottom), $1,000 (middle) and $2,500 (top). Payouts during finals were $1,000 (bottom), $2,500 (middle) and $5,000 (top).
A bonus card during the main round, "Super Six", offered a prize for getting six subjects in thirty seconds. In the second season, a home viewer was selected and won whatever the contestant did.
