Behind the Scenes

  • Creative Artists Agency met with Garris about him writing the pilot script for a possible horror television series to be directed by John McTiernan (who later wound up dropping out of the project), suggesting multiple ghost stories and urban legends to write about. Garris, instead, had the idea for a series to follow a mysterious character who describes himself as "only a storyteller," but is actually much more than that. Episodes would be set in different locations and with the same actors playing different characters. Garris pitched the idea to ABC, but they passed. Garris wrote a pilot based on "Chattery Teeth" and pitched the series to FOX. However, they wanted a movie. Garris then wrote an adaptation of "The Body Politic" for the second part.
  • Garris wasn't initially sold on Christopher Lloyd for the part of Quicksilver, as he originally intended him to be more seductive and mysterious.
  • Matt Frewer didn't have to audition for the film. Garris simply called him on the phone and asked him if he wanted to be in it.
  • In the aired version, "Chattery Teeth" came first, followed by "The Body Politic". However, FOX required that the order be changed for home media. Garris disliked this as he felt "The Body Politic" was more climactic than "Chattery Teeth".
