Plot Overview

Titus Pullo, whilst guarding Marc Antony on the way to the senate for a critical veto, starts a fight with a man with whom he had a gaming disagreement. This sparks a running battle, which means that Marc Antony cannot get to the senate and (as tribune) override Pompey's motion to bring Caesar to trial. Pompey's feint to merely provoke people against Caesar is now carried within the senate and Caesar is declared a traitor.

Caesar crosses the Rubicon with his men (the 13th) - an assertive gesture given that an ancient Roman law forbade any general from crossing the Rubicon River and entering Italy proper with a standing army. To do so was treason.
