Series

Series can have different meanings:

  • In the UK (and other countries), series refers to a year's run for a particular program (e.g., The fifth series of Cheers was better than the sixth, because Shelley Long was better than Kirstie Alley). In the USA, this is referred to as a season.
  • In French, the term série refers to a program with mostly independent episodes (e.g., CSI) in contrast to feuilleton, which designates a serialized show that tells an ongoing story in contiguous installments (e.g., Lost, soap operas, typical miniseries).
