Plot Overview

The episode features two alternative storylines with divergent outcomes.

Mani realizes that Nathan is in love with Fi and urges him to tell her the truth. Nathan runs after Fi who is getting on the bus.

Story One

Nathan catches Fi's bus. He tells her that he loves her and that Jase is actually gay and is in love with his boyfriend. Fi storms off.

Nathan is at Fay's "goodbye penis, hello vagina" party. He encourages Fay to go through with the sex change operation and sees her off to the clinic.

Nathan is back at the hospital and tells Mani that he told Fi. Jase asks Nathan to get him an engagement ring. Fi arrives and confesses to Jase that she had an affair. Later, Jase, still in his hospital gown, confronts Nathan at home about the affair. On the rooftop of their apartment building, Jases confesses his love and his own affair to Fi.

On his way to Fi, Nathan bumps into Helena, who's just coming from the vet where she had her daughter's rabbit put down. It is Jase rather than Fi who opens the door. Fi has left for London for good. Nathan tries to catch her at the train station but is too late. Mani finds a depressed Jase on the sidewalk, but when Jase wants to commit to their relationship, Mani is fed up and refuses.

Story Two

Nathan fails to catch the bus because he bumps into Helena. He spends the afternoon talking to Helena, who was on the way to the vet to have her daughter's pet rabbit put down because the poor creature is dying from cancer.

Nathan gets a call from Mani and admits that he hasn't told Fi. Fi arrives at the hospital. Jase proposes to Fi, but she wavers and temporizes by telling him he'll have to do it properly again some time later.

Nathan has pity with Helena and the rabbit, so he offers her to take it to the vet so she doesn't have to. Helena happily accepts, but Nathan doesn't have the heart to have the rabbit put down. He arrives late at Fay's party. Fay is having second thoughts about the operation.

Nathan encourages Fay to go through with the sex change, and in return Fay urges Nathan to go after Fi. Nathan sees Fay off to the clinic, calls Fi, and goes to meet her at a bar, still carrying the rabbit. Earlier, Fi returned to the hospital and told Jase that she couldn't marry him and that there was somebody else in her life, Nathan. In the bar, Nathan and Fi kiss. In the hospital, Mani learns that Fi has left Jase and he and Jase get together.

Quotes

  • Fabian (about his imminent sex change op): What if, when I become a woman, I change my mind?
Nathan: Well, you wouldn't be a woman if you didn't.
  • Nathan: It's probably easier to think of it as a sado-masochistic love triangle, with four people in it.
