Notes
Guests
- Bill Carter: Bill Carter is a reporter for the New York Times and the author of The Late Shift, a book about the behind-the-scene politicking and rivalry between Jay Leno and David Letterman over who would succeed Johnny Carson when he retired from The Tonight Show. The book was eventually made into a made-for-TV movie which Letterman frequently mocked in the early days of his CBS talk show.
- Joe Franklin: Joe Franklin is credited as being the host of the first television talk show, The Joe Franklin Show, broadcast on WJZ-TV and WOR-TV in New York City. The show ran for 43 years and he interviewed over 10,000 guests in his time. Franklin is seen as a good omen for young talk shows and has appeared on early episodes of Late Night with Conan O'Brien, the radio show This American Life.
