Plot Overview

Superboy is taken into a much better universe where Lex saves his life and his double is a much older man that gives a window into what he can become.

Notes

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • The universe Winger brings Superboy into is home of an older counterpart who explains that he and the other Superboy went through a time rip, the younger much recently and himself much earlier. He arrived about the time of World War II and helped with what he could, paving the world to become a utopia.
  • Lex uses the young Superboy to steal for him, but plots to kill him, not only for fear that he will turn on him, but doing so will make him a hero. Superboy is allowed to return to this universe where he helps the boy and bring Lex to justice. His older self arrives later and it's implied he will help mentor the boy.

Characters

  • Superboy's older self knows where they came from, but doesn't divulge it to Superboy. He simply says that he will eventually learn it, too, and when he does, he will no longer be called Superboy.

Trivia

The Show

Behind the Scenes

  • Ron Ely was almost credited "as Superman" onscreen. However, due to the legal issues, as part of the deal the Salkinds had with DC Comics, they could not use the name. Co-Producer Stan Berkowitz says he has the original pre-air copy of this.

Memorable Moments

Goofs

  • When Superman look at the window, a boom mic can be seen just barely overhead. The shadow can then be seen on the curtains.

Quotes

  • Lex: I was afraid it was going to be Crime and Punishment.
Superman: You remember when I made you read that?
Lex: How could I forget? I was only 12 years old. It was the worst torture you could have thought of.
Superman: I wasn't punishing you, Lex. I was trying to help. You showed great promise. I didn't want you to go in the wrong direction.
Lex: You mean embark on a life of crime? That's a bit farfetched, don't you think?
Superman: We'll never know now, will we?
Lex: Thanks to you.
