Trivia

The Show

No doubt this episode was inspired by the real-life death of actor Victor Buono, who played Mr. Caldwell, Jim's dad. Buono in real life was the same age as Christopher Lloyd, yet looked much older due to his excessive weight and opulent lifestyle.

According to Christopher Lloyd, one of the biggest laughs from the audience came from a bizarre accident. In the scene where Jim lays his father's suit (from Buono's wardrobe) on top of an open suitcase, the suitcase falls shut due to the weight of the suit...Lloyd's scared reaction was totally real, as this was not in the script!
