Amazing Screw-On Head is an animated action program about a secret agent robot. The robot is in fact a screw on head (hence his name) which can be placed on a variety of different robot bodies. He works for Abraham Lincoln in 1862 on projects involving the strange world outside recorded history. The program is adapted from the one-shot comic book of the same name by Mike Mignola, creator of Hellboy. A pilot was produced and aired, but the series was not picked up.

The program first started production in April 2004 when Bryan Fuller was introduced to the comic and given a chance to write the pilot episode by Mark Stern, VP of program development at Sci-Fi. Although the idea of an adaptation was lost on half of the executives when it was pitched, network president Bonnie Hammer put her faith in the development of the series.

The pilot was first shown through the Sci-Fi Pulse, the network's online streaming video service, on July 13. After viewing the pilot, they were given a survey that would eventually determine whether or not the series would be greenlit for further episodes. The pilot then aired on Sci Fi on July 27, 2006.

Following the televised premiere, the pilot garnered positive reviews from critics, but suffered poor ratings. In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Bryan Fuller mentioned that everyone at Sci-Fi didn't "get" the show (with the exception of Mark Stern) and he was waiting for the network to pass so that he could take it to Adult Swim.[1]
