Plot Overview
They confront Dr. Rondart, who says he was only there to bring the child back. Of course, it isn't a child, but only Mokona in disguise. Syaoran reveals that the doctor uses hypnosis on the children, and that every child who disappeared was treated by Dr. Rondart just a few days prior. The children were given the idea to head to the castle on snowy nights so no footprints would be left behind. When the doctor asks how they could trust the list of abductees that Grosum made, Grosum emerges from behind a tree with some of the townspeople. Dr. Rondart finally admits he did it, and that he was after something in the castle that only the children could get. Syaoran says it's Sakura's feather.
Inside the castle, the children all walk away. Emeraude says they are going to meet the villain. Sakura follows them.
Syaoran says he knew Rondart was suspect because he knew the feather belonged to Sakura. When Syaoran demands to know where Sakura and the children are and how Rondart knew about the feather, the doctor makes a run for it, running across the water. When it is still, there is a pathway that can be walked on. Syaoran and the others follow. Inside the castle, they find the cells where the missing children are sleeping.
Sakura continues to run through the hallways, eventually stumbling into Dr. Rondart. He tells her that the others are waiting for her, but when Sakura goes to take his hand, Emeraude says he was the one who took the children. Dr. Rondart doesn't see her, but realizes that Sakura knows the truth. Sakura tries to run, but the chain is still attached to her foot, so the doctor grabs it and she trips. Syaoran and the others run in, and Dr. Rondart threatens Sakura with a gun. She refuses to give up the feather, and Syaoran jumps in and pulls her away from the doctor.
The castle starts to shake, because the water gates have burst open. Fai realizes it has something to do with Kurogane forcing the water gate before. Syaoran and Sakura get separated from the others, so Syaoran tells them to go on ahead. They run down a path that Syaoran remembers from the blueprints will take them outside, but it caves in and Rondart is right behind them. Syaoran tells her to go, but she doesn't want to leave him behind. Princess Emeraude appears and leads Sakura to a hidden door. Syaoran opens the wall, and they escape through. Rondart sees the door, but before he can reach it, a falling statue of Emeraude comes down on him.
Everyone is waiting for Syaoran and Sakura to emerge from the castle, which is crumbling. Eventually the two come out of the water, and Kurogane pulls them up. Emeraude appears and cracks the crystal the feather was encased in, so Sakura finally absorbs it. Because the children are safe and Sakura has her feather back, Princess Emeraude can leave now. As she floats away, Emeraude warns Sakura that they are being watched.
As they walk away, they talk about if Emeraude was a ghost or not. Mokona says that once a ghost has nothing to concern it, it leaves.
Back in town, the children are reunited with their parents. It is revealed that Grosum was out looking for the children every night. The mayor, Mr. Grosum, and a few others head to the doctor's place to give their thanks to Syaoran and the others. But when they open the door, everyone has already left. On the bed is the history book and a note asking that Emeraude's story live on.
As they get ready to leave, Syaoran wonders who was watching them, and who told Dr. Rondart about Sakura's feather. Kurogane says that maybe they're the same person.
Meanwhile, someone is watching them from a nearby hill, and Fei Wong Reed is watching them as well.

CLAMP References
- Cardcaptor Sakura: Syaoran mentions that only Sakura and Yukito have the ability to see spirits in their world. This is actually a divergence from Cardcaptor Sakura, since in that series, it was her brother Touya who had the ability to see ghosts. Sakura Kinomoto's mystical ability was prophetic dreams, and Yukito Tsukishiro had no powers.
