Plot Overview

Veronica takes on a case against Keith's wishes from a woman suspicious of her boyfriend's activities after she finds an engagement ring in his gym bag. Chasing down the boyfriend, Veronica only finds that he is the leading candidate for boyfriend of the year, but the woman determines that even the slightest fault (in this case, that he didn't tell her that he was house-sitting instead of owning the house he lives in) is enough to end the relationship. Meanwhile, Keith meets the mystery man chasing Alicia Fennel, and he claims that Mrs. Fennel took something that belongs to him. At the end of the episode, the man introduces himself to Wallace, and claims to be Wallace's father.

Notes

Mystery of the Week

  • Wealth and Infidelity: Julie Bloch came in to Mars Investigations to have her fiancé, Colin, investigated as she was suspicious he was unfaithful to her. The catch is that she's an extremely wealthy heiress and had spent their entire relationship posing as a middle class schlub, while he claims to live off a trust fund. She fears that her boyfriend knows that she is wealthy and is marrying her for her money. Veronica finds him bettering himself for her sake. For instance, she catches him using false tennis appointments to learn Hebrew for a conversion to Judaism for his wife-to-be. Julie pays for a temptation scenario and Veronica discovers that he found out who her family was and that he may not have been entirely forthcoming about his finances. Julie immediately broke off the relationship because money matters more than the good faith he had shown her. Veronica later discovered that he was telling the truth about his trust fund and he didn't like to flaunt his wealth and celebrity friends.

The School Bus Disaster

  • Weevil informs Veronica that he got a tip about Curly Moran being behind the bus disaster. He gives Veronica the number and she discovers that it is registered to Aaron Echolls. When questioning Logan, he claims that he was having a party that night, and Weevil and his gang crashed it.

Happenings

  • The Laptop: Meg's younger sister brings Duncan a laptop that Meg kept secret from her parents. Duncan agrees to keep Meg's personal e-mails safe from the prying eyes of Meg's parents on a green keychain drive. Veronica almost copies them to her own computer without Duncan's knowledge, but resists the temptation.
  • Wallace, I Am Your Father: The man chasing Mrs. Fennel introduces himself to Wallace and claims that he is Wallace's father. He has an old photograph of himself with Wallace's mother. It is also revealed that he is a highly decorated detective.

Characters

  • Meg: We meet Meg's parents and sisters. Meg's parents are controlling psychos.
  • Duncan: Duncan has been attempting to visit Meg in the hospital everyday since the accident, but her parents won't allow him to see her. Veronica didn't know about this until she went to visit Meg herself.
  • Meg's Parents: Meg's parents blame Duncan for Meg being on the bus when the crash happened.

Allusions and References

  • Othello: Othello by William Shakespeare tells the tragic story of a Moor who commands the Venecian army against Cypress. However, at the battlefield, treachery is afoot as his ancient, Iago, attempts to set up Othello against himself and his wife because of a promotion. The title of the episode refers to a quote from the play in which Iago says, "O, beware, my lord, of jealousy; It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on."
  • Iggy Pop: Born James Newell Osterberg, Iggy Pop was one of the fathers of modern punk music. He and his band, the Stooges, recorded some of the most recognizable songs of the proto-punk generation, most notably Search & Destroy and Lust for Life. Iggy was most notorious, however, for his over the top stage antics and crippling heroin addiction. At the peak of his career, he was dangerously underweight as a result of the heroin and covered in scars from cutting himself onstage.
Veronica: Do you leave heroin out when Iggy Pop spends the night?

Memorable Moments

  • Veronica dresses up as a coed and attempts to seduce the man she is investigating.

Quotes

  • Veronica: Do you leave heroin out when Iggy Pop spends the night?
  • Veronica: Can I ask you something first?
Duncan: Yes to costumes, no to props. Does that cover it?
  • Logan: My day is complete, Veronica Mars has accused me of evil!
  • Keith: The next time I shoot you, it won't be digitally. Unless I hit you in the finger, then we'll have a big laugh about it.
  • Veronica: Julie, it's 2:27 in the morning. The Silver Package has its perks, but post-midnight girl talk is not one of them.
Julie: But what if I get an upgrade...what comes after Silver?
Veronica: Psycho!
