Plot Overview

Notes

The Lilly Kane Murder

  • Although Aaron was found not guilty, he confesses the murder to Veronica, who he attempts to intimidate in an elevator. He ultimately meets his demise at the hands of Clarence Wiedman, as per Duncan's request.

The School Bus Disaster

  • Veronica has been following up on the little league team photo, calling everyone she can who appears in the photograph with Peter and Marcos. She eventually discovers that Beaver was on the team as well, but wasn't in the picture.
  • The person who blew up the bus was Beaver, who got the explosives from Curly. He proved his know-how with explosives by doing the explosives work for Hart's war movies. Curly told Weevil that he knew who blew up the bus, but was silenced before he could come forward. Beaver was the one who wrote "Veronica Mars" on Curly's palm and sent him off a cliff.

Veronica's Rape

  • It turns out Veronica was raped after all. Despite the closure of a very drunk Duncan being the culprit from last season, Beaver getting chlamydia from Woody's molestation and transferring it to Veronica pegs him as the real rapist.

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Bounty: Mr. Manning has put out a bounty to the tune of $20,000 for the retrieval of Woody Goodman, who fled the city last episode. In a partnership with Vinnie Van Lowe, Keith apprehended Woody at a hunting lodge in Nevada.
  • Phoenix Land Trust: Beaver's real-estate venture has grown to be worth over $8 million, which defaults to Kendall because of his death. She won't be getting any money from the insurance, but is still rich. Beaver's first purchases for the company turned out to be in unincorporated areas, which he learned in class would depreciate in value after Neptune incorporated. To avoid this loss, he blackmailed Woody into sabotaging the incorporation measure, thus preserving (and probably increasing) the net worth of the company.
  • Cliffhanger: At the end of the episode, Kendall came into Mars Investigations to hire Keith to do something immediately for a payment of something in a briefcase. This is either a great deal of money or, perhaps, Marsellus Wallace's soul. What it is that she hired him for is unknown, but it may involve finding Richard Casablancas, Sr.

Characters

  • Lilly: In Veronica's dream, Lilly goes to Vassar. Its unknown as to whether or not this was a real desire of hers or if it was made up by Veronica's mind.
  • Mac and Beaver: It seems that Mac and Beaver have reignited their relationship after spending quality time teaching Weevil algebra. Unfortunately for Mac, Beaver is crazy and may or may not have raped her, depending on how one takes the context of her line, "He took everything."
  • Weevil: Weevil was arrested before he could get his diploma by Lamb for his involvement in Thumper's death.
  • Jackie: Jackie isn't in Paris, she went to Brooklyn to live with her mom. She wasn't the rich girl that she made herself out to be and turns out to be another girl from Brooklyn. It also turns out that she has a son. The reason why she was in California was because her mom cut a deal with her father to give Jackie a fresh start while her child is raised in Brooklyn by his grandmother.
  • Beaver: Beaver was one of the kids on the little league team, but he wasn't picture in the photograph. He was the third kid to be molested, which is probably why he had such problems with intimacy. After his fight with Veronica and Logan on the rooftop, he commits suicide by leaping off the top of the Neptune Grand.
  • Woody: Woody was killed when Beaver blew up his plane.
  • Aaron: Just as promised, Aaron gets his justice when he's killed by Clarence Wiedman.
  • Duncan: Duncan has been hiding out with his daughter in Mollymook, Australia.
  • Veronica and Logan: Once again, Veronica and Logan are back together.

Referbacks

  • 2x20 - Look Who's Stalking: Woody got a campaign member drunk in a hotel room, where she passed out from alcohol poisoning. Although it appears to be an accident in the episode, Keith figures out that it was just a ploy to have the incorporation measure defeated.
Keith: Someone blackmails you and you use me to set up the whole girl in a motel thing.
  • 2x03 - Cheatty Cheatty Bang Bang: Beaver hired Veronica to find out if Kendall was cheating on his father under the pretext that he didn't want her to continue to leech off Big Dick. However, in this episode he reveals that he knew what was going on and just wanted Veronica to uncover the evidence that they were committing real estate fraud, so that he could get revenge on his father.
Veronica: You didn't hire me to catch Kendall cheating on your dad, did you?

Trivia

The Show

  • On TV: The show Woody Goodman is watching in the lodge is an episode from The Dukes of Hazzard, presumably Mason Dixon's Girls because of the marijuana reference. In the episode, Bo and Luke accidentally pick up a crate of marijuana and wind up working with a private detective to take down the real drug-smugglers.
  • Also on TV: Aaron Echolls is watching himself (well, Harry Hamlin) in the 1981 movie King of the Mountain.

Behind the Scenes

  • Awards: This episode won an IVy Award for the 2005-06 season for Best Individual Episode of a Drama Series.

Allusions and References

  • Google Earth: Google Earth is a program offered by the Google search engine that allows, through satellite photography, an enhanced look at a part of the map. Details like outdoor pools and (in this case) landing strips are made more visible through this technology.
Keith: I checked Google Earth.
  • Dick Cheney: Veronica and Keith again make fun of the incident on February 11, 2006, when U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney was on a hunting trip with a few of his friends and accidentally shot Harry Whittington, a 78-year-old Texas attorney, in the face, neck and upper torso with a shotgun filled with birdshot after whipping around to shoot a quail.
Veronica: I don't know if I like the idea of you running around a place full of armed, drunk businessmen.
Keith: That's why I rarely go to Texas.
  • Rapper's Delight: Dick misquotes a line from Rapper's Delight by Sugarhill Gang. The correct line is "up jump the boogie" rather than "up chuck." The song was Sugarhill Gang's biggest hit and is widely accepted as the first ever hip-hop single.
Dick: We're gonna up chuck the boogie to the rhythm of the boogie the beat.
  • Ghost World: Ghost World is a series of comic strips by Daniel Clowes that appeared in the pages of his anthology comic, Eightball. The strips were later collected into a paperback book and even later were adapted into a movie starring Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi. Dick likely is referring to the movie, particularly Birch's role as Enid, who Mac resembles.
Dick: I think he took Ghost World up to his room.
  • Renewal on The CW? At the time the episode aired, there had been no public announcement yet whether the show would be renewed for a third season on the successor network, The CW.
Duncan: C.W.?
Wiedman: It's a done deal.
  • New York, New York: Keith and Veronica are quoting from the lyrics of the song "New York, New York", popularized by Frank Sinatra.
Keith: I can feel it already. The little town blues are melting away. You all packed?
Veronica: Vagabond shoes and all.
  • Donald Trump: Donald Trump is a billionaire business executive who primarily deals with real-estate. He also has gained notoriety with his reality series, The Apprentice, where he acts as the main judge for who will get a job in his firm. Incidentally, Big Dick Casablancas and (to an extent) Beaver were also real-estate moguls.
Veronica: And pepper spray. For if we run into that Trump character.
  • Norman Rockwell: A popular 20th century American painter most famous for his work on cover illustrations, Norman Rockwell was also commissioned to paint the portraits of several U.S. Presidents and other dignitaries.
Kendall: No, no, hold that position. Norman Rockwell wants to come in and paint you two.
  • Bye Bye Birdie: One of the most oft-remembered songs in the popular stage musical is "Going Steady" which deals with idealized 1950s grade school love. Kendall quotes a line from the piece to Logan and Veronica.
Kendall: Did he pin the pin on, or was he too shy?
Logan: I didn't know you could come out during daylight hours.

Memorable Moments

Quotes

  • Veronica: So this is how it is. The innocent suffer, the guilty go free, and truth and fiction are pretty much interchangeable.
  • Clemmons: I can't decide if my life is gonna be easier or more difficult with you gone. Anything I should know in case I get another one like you some day?
Veronica: Don't keep all your passwords taped on the bottom of your stapler.
