The Quick and the Wed is the fifteenth episode of the second season of Veronica Mars, and the thirty-seventh episode overall. Jane's sister has gone missing and it's up to Veronica to get to the bottom of the mystery. Meanwhile, several subplots converge as Logan's trial draws near.

Mystery of the Week

• Runaway Bride: Jane's sister has gone missing and Veronica must figure out what's become of her before her wedding in three days. To further complicate things, she must do it without drawing attention from the groom. At Heidi's apartment, evidence is found that she may have been expecting someone. Jane also mentions that she spotted someone who she thought was stalking Heidi. After tracking her ATM and cell phone records, Veronica and Wallace find Heidi's car abandoned in a parking lot, inside of the car they find the disposable camera from the night she disappeared. Jane manages to identify the man in the photo, but all they can see is the man's shirt—a bowling shirt. The mysterious man turns out to be Vinny Van Lowe, a rival P.I. Eventually Heidi resurfaces when she calls her fiancé and Veronica attempts to call her, only to get a fax signal. Veronica returns to Heidi's apartment to find a fax from Nick, Heidi's old flame. Finally, Veronica catches up to Heidi and the two discover that it wasn't Nick who sent the fax and the text messages she received from a friend weren't from Kim.
• It turns out that the family hired Vinny to try to drive her away from the wedding so that the family could keep the giant diamond ring. He attempted to convince her that Nick was cheating on her and thus make it so she would either back out or not show up, absolving Nick of having to call off the wedding himself.

The School Bus Disaster

• An arrest warrant to issued for Terrence Cook, but Keith finds evidence that Cook wouldn't have kept the evidence in the locker because of the regular car detailing. However, Terrance was shot by the Journalism teacher's father when he was caught breaking into her San Francisco home.

• The Trial of Logan: With Logan's trial fast approaching, he decides not to go through with the plea bargain, despite Cliff's suggestion. Meanwhile, Logan manages to agitate Dr. Griffith enough to make him withdraw his testimony in his trial, as long as Logan stays away from Hannah.
• The Landtrust: Beaver and Kendell's enterprise is starting to run out of capital, so he asks her to think outside the box a little in order to get more money. Kendall goes to Aaron for money, who gets her to do something for him. It is unknown what this is yet, but it is speculated that she's getting someone's hair from the drain in the bathroom to plant on someone.
• Incorporation: The potential fallout for Woody Goodman's plans for incorporation are shown when Mr. Pope gives the example of another town that was incorporated. The most important detail here is that following incorporation, the unincorporated pieces of land sank into further crime and poverty. This affects Beaver's Landtrust business, but in what way is yet to be seen.

• Logan: Although Logan has been using Hannah in order to get at her father, it seems that he is having regrets about his decision to use her as leverage for his own gain. Although he's now apparently off the hook, he's probably going to go back on his promise to the doctor and land himself in more trouble with the Fitzpatricks.

• 1x12 - Clash of the Tritons: The Lynn Echolls suicide occurred at the end of an episode in the first season, after Aaron's infidelities were discovered and exposed.
• 2x09 - My Mother, the Fiend: Trina Echolls and Veronica attempted to use a terminal illness to smoke out Trina's real mother, presuming that it was Celeste Kane. However, when it turned out to be the deaf lunchlady at Neptune High that was her real mother, the plot was revealed as a hoax.

Allusions and References

• The Quick and the Dead: The title to this episode is a parody of the 1995 western film, The Quick and the Dead, directed by Sam Raimi.

• I Want You to Want Me: The "slutty song" that Heidi sang was I Want You to Want Me by Cheap Trick. The song was released in 1977 on the album In Color, but the live version of the song from Live at Budokon is a more popular version of the song. It is their biggest hit and reached the top 10 on the singles chart.

Heidi: (singing) I want you want me, I need you to need me.

• Gollum: The way that Heidi's friend covets Heidi's giant engagement ring is a parody of the way that Gollum (originally Sméagol) covets the one ring from the Lord of the Rings books. In the books and movies, Gollum spends his time stalking Frodo and attempting to steal the ring back from him before he can throw it into the fires of Mount Doom.

• Silence of the Lambs: The concept of quid pro quo was used heavily during Clarice Starling's interviews with Dr. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs. In the movie, Clarice attempts to find a serial killer using Lecter's help, but only by indulging his prying information out of her. The sounds that Aaron makes after his "quid pro quo" comment is also an impression of Anthony Hopkins as Lecter.

Aaron: But... quid pro quo, Mrs. C. Quid pro quo.

• The Big Lebowski: While talking to private investigator Vinnie Van Lowe at the bowling alley, Vinnie offers Veronica a beer and Veronica responds with a line from the 1998 film The Big Lebowski.

Veronica: Vinnie, this is not 'Nam. This is bowling. There are rules.

• Logan: So you want me to come over after school?

Hannah: The words out of your mouth are, "come over," but all I hear you saying is, "Let's have sex."
