WGXA is the callsign for the Fox affiliate for the Macon, Georgia market, broadcasting on digital channel 26. It is displayed on tuners as virtual channel 24. Its subcarrier on 26.4 (virtual 24.2) carries ABC programming. A second subcarrier, Comet TV (science fiction) is on 24.3.
Channel 24 was first allocated in 1967 and a construction permit was issued for it to go on as WMCN. WGXA signed on in 1982 as Macon's ABC affiliate. Before that, selected ABC shows were shown on CBS affiliate WMAZ/channel 13 (many shows were run on a delay while sports events from ABC were shown live). In 1994, WGXA carried NFL football games under secondary affiliation from Fox. WPGA/channel 58 signed on in 1995 as the market's Fox affiliate. On New Year's 1996, WGXA switched to Fox, with ABC going to WPGA. WGXA had a subcarrier, 16.2 (mapped as 24.2) that carried MyNetworkTV programs but it had been recently discontinued. MyNetworkTV is now seen on the subcarrier of WMGT (digital 30, virtual 41).
As a result of the spectrum auction, WGXA moved their digital transmissions from channel 16 to 26 on June 14, 2019. Their subcarriers moved accordingly. They will retain their display channel of 24.
