Plot Overview
Kristine Luffey and her partner, Nicki Boone of Arizona have been in a committed lesbian relationship for three years. Kristine and Nicki share a three-bedroom house with Nicki's 8-year-old biological daughter, Elizabeth. They make a point of exposing Elizabeth to diversity through their gay and straight friends. Elizabeth has a television in her bedroom and is allowed to watch PG-13 movies. Kristine handles most of the cleaning and the yard work while Nicki avoids doing any chores at all.
Kristine swaps places with Kris Gillespie of Texas, who is an anti-gay, African-American conservative Republican wife in an interracial marriage with her husband, Brian and denounces gay people as "depraved" despite the parents preaching tolerance.
The Gillespies are also die-hard supporters of all things that are Texan (especially George Bush). Kris and Brian screen and withhold any music, books, video games or movies that they deem inappropriate for their three children: 16-year-old Michael, 14-year-old Jackson and 12-year-old Catherine. The kids have to make sure that they meet their mother's "excellence" standard, especially when it comes to setting the formal table in their house for dinner with china place settings that are designated by an instructional chart.
