Plot Overview

WizGiz is teaching a class on metamorphosis, and assigns all the students to change the color of their hair. Bloom struggles, as she can't seem to do it right. Stella tries to help her, but it's no use.

In the cafeteria, Faragonda and Griselda make an announcement - it's the annual Alfea dance, and the boys from the Red Fountain school are coming over and bringing gifts. Bloom doesn't have a good outfit for the dance, so the girls take her shopping and she buys one.

Meanwhile, at the Cloud Tower school, Griffin assigns the witches to sabotage the dance. Icy, Darcy, and Stormy come up with a plan. They get ready to invade Alfea, and plan to kill two birds with one stone - sabotage the dance and steal Stella's ring.

Bloom's dress is too long for her, so she searches for a pair of scissors. As she's looking, she overhears Icy, Darcy, and Stormy turning the Red Fountain boys' gifts, which were enchanted eggs, into snake rat eggs.

Bloom enters the ballroom and looks for Stella, Tecna, Musa, and Flora, but bumps into "Brandon" along the way and says she wants to dance with him, but walks away. She finds the other girls, and tells them what the witches are planning. At the last minute, they cast a spell to turn the eggs back to normal, and Flora casts another spell.

The witches use a spell to find out where Stella's ring is kept, and cast a spell so it flies toward them. Bloom sees this and chases the ring, but she runs into the witches. Bloom finally learns how to use her powers and fights off the witches. Unfortunately, it seems as though they got away with Stella's ring, but Flora reminds Bloom of the spell she cast. This spell turned the egg that supposedly had Stella's ring in it into a duck egg.

Bloom finishes preparing her dress and shows up. "Brandon" walks up to Bloom and says that she owes him a dance.

Behind the Scenes

Dub Edits

  • Choosing a Voice: In the original version, when WizGiz turned into Griselda, he sounded like Griselda's voice talking over his own. In the dub, he only spoke with Griselda's voice.
  • More Motivation... Though Still Unjust: In the original, Griffin's motive to sabotage the dance was because no one from Cloud Tower was invited, but she doesn't mention this in the dub.
  • We're Not Sisters: It is revealed this episode that the Trix are sisters, but this is never mentioned in the dub.
  • Where Did You Learn That Spell?: In the original version, Flora learned her spell from Professor Paladium. In the dub, she learned it from Teen Fairy Magazine.
  • Thank You 4Kids! But Our Princess is in Another Castle!: In the dub, Faragonda refers to Musa as "Princess Musa". In the original, Musa is not a princess. This creates problems later on in the series, with "Magic in My Heart" and "Royal Behavior".
  • The Switcheroo Applies to Scenes Too: In the dub, the scene where Icy opened the egg and Pepe popped out came before the scene where Flora explained the spell, but in the original, it came afterwards. Therefore, Flora's dialogue was rewritten from explaining the spell to telling Bloom what was going on while she was getting dressed.
Terminology Changes
Deleted Scenes
  • After Bloom fails to change her hair color, Flora and Stella tell Bloom that she's making progress, and she asks why they are at Alfea, and they explain it to her, and she can't think of a reason. This is cut from the dub.
  • In the original, Bloom and Flora snuck into the cafeteria late, but it's not in the dub. When asked why they were late, Bloom said it's because she overslept.
  • A scene with the girls walking to their room and talking about what they would do for their party is cut.
  • In the original version, Bloom tries to use magic to cut her dress, after failing to find a pair of scissors, and sets it on fire. Then she goes and sees the boys, and then realizes the dress is on fire. In the dub, she does not set it on fire.

Allusions and References

4Kids version

  • The title is a reference to the movie Save the Last Dance.
  • The first prize for Griffin's contest is a gift certificate to "Aberzombie and Witch", a reference to the clothing store "Abercrombie and Fitch".
  • Another Harry Potter reference is made, Darcy's attack name being "Perceptus Disorientus". In the original, it was simply "Vertigo".

Memorable Moments

Quotes

4Kids version

  • WizGiz: Metamorphosis is the art of changing how you appear, and once you master it, you can change into anything from a rock to a rock star!
  • WizGiz: (turns into Grisela) Don't worry, I'm not really the Queen of Detention.
  • Griffin: I encourage you to be as witchy as possible!
  • Tecna: Yeah, it took me forever to find this thing!
Musa: It's... interesting! Where'd you get it, Mars?
  • Bloom: 80% off and 90% perfect!
  • Griffin: I received a number of proposals, but none as disgusting as yours! A repulsive idea, revolting, despicable... in other words, it's the best! Congratulations, you're abominable!
  • Bloom: There's gotta be a pair of scissors somewhere around here... grr! What's the point of knowing magic if you can't use it for the simplest things?!
  • Darcy: I didn't know we'd be walking, these heels pinch my feet.
Icy: Uh-uh, don't even start your witching, Darcy. Once we get that ring, we'll so rule, and we'll take chariots everywhere.
Darcy: Fine, just please tell me we're almost there.
    Stormy: You have the map.
    Icy: Right.
Darcy: Oh, uh, we're almost there.
  • Bloom: A school full of magic and I can't even find a pair of scissors? This is so ridiculous!
  • Icy: This'll be like taking candy from a fairy.
  • Icy: Turn the enchanted into the curse, give 'em a bite that'll make 'em puke first!
Darcy: The eggs will hatch, and snake rats appear.
Stormy: And spread panic, nausea, and terrible fear!
  • Bloom, Stella, Flora, Tecna, and Musa: (in unison) Let all the dark magic be reversed! Make the eggs like they were before they were cursed!
  • Bloom: 1, 2, 3, come back ring! 4, 5, 6, stop that thing! Boy, that was pathetic!
  • "Brandon": So, do you like Alfea?
Bloom: Yeah, yeah I do. I'm starting to feel right at home here.

Original version

  • Bloom: Girls, can I ask you something? Why are you here at Alfea?
Stella: Because I want to become a real fairy, successful, beautiful, powerful, and universally admired. Of course, I also want to do good things like making people happy and bringing back together estranged lovers starting with my parents.
Flora: I wanna become a real fairy too. But I'm here primarily because I really love to learn. (gets hit with a pillow thrown by Stella)
Stella: Oh, that is such a nerdy answer!
    Flora: What about you, Bloom?
Bloom: Well, that's the problem. I have no idea what I'm doing here.
  • Stella: Mind you, it wasn't cheap. But look at it, it was calling me from the shop window, "Buy me! Buy me, please!"
Musa: And of course, you answered its plea. How very noble of you!
Stella: Well, I'm bound to make an impression.
  • Griffin: I've recieved many suggestions, but none as disgusting as yours! A horrible idea, terrible, despicable... in other words, it's the best!
  • Tecna: Snake rats, swamp creatures of the disgustabilus genes, they eat toads...
Stella: Uh, thank you, Tecna, we get the picture!
