Atom Ant is an animated comedy that aired on NBC. It was the second made-for-Saturday morning cartoon by the Hanna-Barbera studio (the first was Ruff and Reddy).
The title character is a superhero insect imbued with atomic power. He faces numerous villains and megalomaniacs, the regular being scientist Dr. Crankenshaft. Joining Atom Ant are Precious Pupp (starring a snickering dog and his mistress Granny Sweet) and The Hillbilly Bears.
In 1967, Atom Ant joined companion H-B show Secret Squirrel in a combined half-hour show. In 1970, Atom Ant became an element in the syndicated Banana Splits show.
Hanna-Barbera produced the series in association with Screen Gems (which was also the show's original distributor). Following several distributor changes over the years, Warner Bros. Television now distributes the show due to its ownership of the Hanna-Barbera catalogue.
