Season Two of Battlestar Galactica picks up mere moments after the end of the first season, continuing the Helo/Starbuck/Boomer plot thread on Caprica and the story of Galactica and the fleet, and ending the Kobol story arc with the rescue of Baltar, Chief, Cally, and the other survivors of the crashed Raptor from the previous season's finale two-parter.

• Ratings: An overview of Season Two episode Nielsen ratings
• With the second season Sci Fi Channel took over all production costs – SkyOne UK does no longer co-produce the show. That's why season two premiered in the USA instead of the UK.
• Sci Fi Channel altered Season 2's opening credits for the first several episodes. A sequence that originally consisted of two different parts, the first being a traditional opening and the second a montage of scenes from the current episode, was cut down to only include the traditional opening sequence. The music was also changed to the U.K. version of the credit sequence shown on Sky One, and text including a survivor count was added. However, as of 2x05 "The Farm", the montage has been re-added. The music remains as the UK theme.
