Plot Overview

The Show

  • Sam's brother Derek's voice is heard, but is his face is never shown. Similar techniques have been used in other shows, at least as early as Rhoda (the never-seen Carlton the Doorman). The same device would be used many times throughout Cheers, with Norm's wife Vera, and on the spinoff Frasier, with Niles' wife Maris.
