Plot Overview

Callister Raynes, a man who was once involved with Jo and caused some kind of disaster, has returned to Eureka after disappearing off the face of the Earth for several years. Along with his return comes an epidemic of electrical problems which first knock out a traffic light outside of Cafe Diem and then the temperature gauge in the cafe. Allison explains Callister's story to Jack: he was brought in for a special project, but he and Stark had a falling out and Stark's lab wound up on fire. Jo comes into the cafe to kiss Callister and subsequently punch him in the face.

Callister makes his way to where his old lab was in a back alley in Eureka, where he's ambushed by Stark. Callister tells Stark that "something is very wrong" and that's why he's come back to Eureka despite it being dangerous for the both of them. At a farm outside of town, another surge has happened which magnetizes the electric fence, which winds up putting Jack and Allison in an uncomfortably situation when she becomes stuck on him because of the fence. They find that the main CPU board for the fence was fried. Henry explains that a virus was installed into Eureka's operating system which could cause the programmer to gain access to anything on the network.

Meanwhile, Callister demands that Stark help him with a problem that he's been suffering for a couple weeks. Although they aren't specific about the problem, they do make it clear that the fire was staged and Callister left on his own accord. Stark retrieves a device from the safe behind his Nobel Prize while Callister goes to Beverly's house where he meets Zoe. At the police station, Jo doesn't find any records of Callister in the security check system but a more pressing matter comes in their fax machine. Zoe is wanted for credit card fraud and identity theft, Jack confronts her about it at Beverly and more or less kicks her out of his house.

Stark finally catches up with Callister at Beverly's house, when he goes upstairs into Callister's room, there's a flash and smoke starts to pour down the stairwell. Everyone evacuates and Stark speeds off with Callister in tow. Jack tracks them down to the laboratory space where Callister first went to meet Stark. Callister puts up his hands, revealing a cybernetic arm. Stark reveals that Callister is an AI being that Stark built. He sent Callister away in order to prevent him for being part of DARPA's tests, but because he transmits on a certain wavelength, it corrupted Eureka's system. Callister takes off in Stark's BMW and heads for the bus depot with Zoe, who hitchhikes with him.

Jack and Stark track them town to a bus station in Summerville headed for Portland. The arrive a few minutes late, but Zoe and Callister got off the bus because he was sick. At the bus station, Callister shuts down for good because the virus has infected his operating system to the point that he can't function anymore.
