Plot Overview

When incarcerated killer Dr Abel Gideon murders a night nurse at the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane, administrator Dr Frederick Chilton believes he is the much wanted Chesapeake Ripper due to the similar style. Gideon's sudden willingness to take credit is suspicious. It also stirs up Crawford's memories of Miriam Lass, the young FBI trainee he sicced on the case, but who disappeared just before the Ripper went dormant.

Trivia

The Show

• First appearance of the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

• The final flashback of Miriam Lass visiting Hannibal's office matches almost exactly the backstory of Will finding out he was the Chesapeake Ripper. The one difference is that Hannibal attacked with a linoleum knife, nearly disembowelling Will.

• Miriam Lass is very reminiscent of Clarice Starling, the main protagonist from The Silence of the Lambs and a character the show had yet to secure the rights to.

Memorable Moments

• Lass discovers the Wound Man illustration in his office, but is grabbed by Hannibal before she can do anything.

Quotes

• Jack: Dr Chilton, we're going to need to see the crime scene while it's still relatively undisturbed.

Chilton: I assure you, for something so disturbing, it is quite undisturbed.
