James May was born January 16, 1963 in Bristol, England. He is a writer and broadcaster who specializes in motoring. He writes a weekly column for The Daily Telegraph newspaper and is a host for the BBC motoring program Top Gear.

Biography
May was educated at the Oakwood Comprehensive School (now Oakwood Technology College) in Rotherdam, South Yorkshire, England before graduating from Lancaster University with a degree in Music. After completing his degree, James worked at several publications and as a sub-editor for Autocar magazine. He currently writes a weekly column in The Daily Telegraph and is also a contributor to the BBC’s Top Gear magazine.
James presented Driven on Channel 4 before joining Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond in the second season of BBC’s Top Gear, a motoring program. He has also made guest appearances on Ready, Steady, Cook, BBC Breakfast, and 20th Century Roadshow. In addition to his presence on television, James has been a guest on BBC Radio discussing motoring.
May has written a book called May on Motors, a collection of his columns from The Daily Telegraph, Scotland on Sunday, Car magazine, and Top Gear magazine.
He is unmarried and lives in Hammersmith, West London, England.
