KFMB-TV is the CBS affiliate for the San Diego, California market, broadcasting on digital channel 8. They were channel 8 on analog and had first broadcast digital on channel 55. They moved to channel 7 on low power (to keep from interfering with KABC in Los Angeles), then to channel 8 on full-power after shutting their analog signal off on February 17, 2009. Their subcarrier, on channel 8.2, airs the CW as primary and My Network TV as secondary. It previously aired Me-TV, which is now on a subchannel of KGTV/channel 10. A second subcarrier, on 8.3, airs the diginet Grit TV.

KFMB went on the air in 1949 with CBS as its primary affiliation. It has remained with CBS to this day. It had a secondary affiliation with NBC up to 1953 (when KFSD signed on), ABC to 1956 (when XETV switched from being an independent), and DuMont to 1955 (when that network went dark for good). KFMB's stations IDs early on usually took the form of a black "eight" ball from a billiard table. In the early 1960s, a cartoon pelican was employed for station IDs as it would enter singing the station's jingle "KFMB-TV channel 8..." (to the tune of Pop Goes The Weasel), get bonked on the head by the eight ball, then splutter "San Diego!" as it lay on the ground. Some of the station's local programs included SunUp (a news/topics show similar to NBC's The Today Show) and TV8 Bingo (play-at home game show--viewers picked up playing cards at participating outlets).

Regis Philbin is an alumnus of KFMB-TV. He had also worked at the NBC affiliate, which at the time was KOGO (now ABC station KGTV).

On May 31, 2017, KFMB took on affiliation with the CW on subchannel 8.2. The CW had been on XETV, which became a repeater for Canal 5 station XHGC-CD on the same day. Tegna, the broadcast media arm of Gannett, purchased KFMB-TV and radio from Midwest Television in February 2018. In September 2018, My Network TV moved from XHDTV-TDT/channel 49 to KFMB's first subcarrier where it is secondary to the CW. XHDTV now runs Milenio, a Mexico-based cable news outlet.
