KSBW is the NBC affiliate for the Monterey/Salinas, California television market, broadcasting on digital channel 8.
KSBW signed on in 1953 on analog channel 8 in Salinas as a time share with KMBY in Monterey. The stations merged two years later. KSBW had ABC, CBS and DuMont as secondary affiliations, dropping DuMont in 1955 after it went under, dropping ABC in 1960 when KNTV in San Jose signed on (it was the market's default ABC station up until 2002 when it became San Francisco's NBC outlet), and dropping CBS in 1969 when KMST (now KION) signed on.
Since 2000, ABC had been available as a cable-only channel as "ABC 7", which was a pipe-in of KGO-TV in San Francisco as the Monterey/Salinas market had no proper ABC affiliate. In spring 2011, KSBW will make its subcarrier the market's ABC affiliate.
