KUCW is an American local station. Licenced to Ogden, Utah, the station primarily serves the Salt Lake City area and the state of Utah. Nexstar Broadcasting Group owns the station, which is a primary affiliate of The CW operating on digital channel 48 (and displaying as virtual channel 30, the station's former analog channel, on digital tuners). It is also a secondary NBC affiliate, carrying NBC programming not cleared by the network's Salt Lake City affiliate, KSL-TV. It is a sister station of Salt Lake City ABC affiliate KTVX, also carrying that station's ABC programming when KTVX is not able to due to interruptions for breaking news or pre-emptions for programming of local interest.
History
The station first began in 1985 as call letters KOOG-TV as an independent station. In 1995, the station switched to The WB as one of its charter affiliates. In 1998, the station also changed its call letters to KUPX, not very long it became KUWB-TV. In 2006, when UPN and The WB shut down and merged into The CW, the station became an affiliate of the new network also changed its call letters to the current KUCW to reflect the affiliation.
