Legend of the Seeker (known during development as Wizard's First Rule) is a fantasy drama series that aired in syndication. It is adapted from The Sword of Truth, an epic series of novels written by Terry Goodkind. The series of novels, totaled at 11 at the time rights were acquired, revolve around Richard Cypher, a man who becomes embroiled in a conflict with the son of an evil wizard while investigating the murder of his father.
The production rights for the novels were acquired by Sam Raimi in 2008 for production in cooperation with ABC Studios. This arrangement is much like Raimi's previous foreés into syndicated fantasy action, namely Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and the spin-off Xena: Warrior Princess. The series was cleared in 95% of the country including the top 50 markets.
The show premiered the weekend of November 1, 2008 with a two-hour telefilm consisting of the first two episodes.
