"In a time of ancient gods, warlords, and kings. A land in turmoil cried out for a hero. She was Xena, a mighty princess, forged in the heat of battle... Her courage will change the world."

Xena: Warrior Princess was the most successful TV show by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's production company Renaissance Pictures, which also produced Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, American Gothic, Young Hercules, Jack of All Trades, and Cleopatra 2525. The company has stopped producing TV shows, but continues to produce feature films.

Xena: Warrior Princess detailed the journey of the former warlord, Xena, who, after having been defeated by Hercules, confronts some of her life choices and decides to become a warrior for good. In the first episode she saves a young woman called Gabrielle, who eagerly (and insistently) joins Xena in her journey.

What followed were six seasons that combined high drama with campy adventure and stunning vistas with low-brow slapstick. Probably one of the more unexpected fan favorites lately, with its strong leading woman, in a time when The WB were establishing the teenage/young adult protagonist as its trademark.

The series was produced for first-run syndication by Renaissance Pictures, with distribution originally handled by MCA Television until 1996, by Universal Television Enterprises from 1996 until 1998 and then by Studios USA until the show ended production. NBCUniversal Television Distribution now syndicates the show.
